Where is East York?

Situated just north of Danforth Avenue, East York is one of Toronto’s oldest, more established neighbourhoods.  Located on the east end of Toronto. Google map here East York residents have easy access to major highways including the Don Valley Parkway and Highway 401, Lakeshore Blvd and the Gardiner Expressway.  Residents are also just steps away from a choice of five subway stations and several TTC bus routes.  Want to leave the car at home? Take the TTC and head into downtown Toronto or go south to the Beaches and Lake Ontario.  Either way, you’re there in just minutes.

 The Neighbourhood

Don’t let the close proximity to downtown Toronto and abundant access to transportation fool you.  East York is a “neighbourhood” in the true sense of the word.  Long-term residents welcome first-time homebuyers and young families into their midst.  The area is known for its excellent parks and recreation facilities with six indoor and outdoor pools, the East York Recreation Centre, Stan Wadlow Park and Arena to name a few .  The Taylor Creek Park and Ravine system, which runs through the neighbourhood, provides residents with untouched nature trails, sports fields, cycling and jogging paths and secluded spots perfect for a family picnic.  Visit the popular farmers market at East York Civic Centre or join the Canada Day festivities.  East York’s parade and family fair have been a “must” for Toronto residents for over 55 years!

The tree lined streets – Strathmore, Monarch Park, Milverton, Salmon Ave. and Queensdale – to name a few - feature older homes and post WWII bungalows, perfect for first-time homebuyers and younger families.  There is a good mix of single and detached homes.  Many have been newly renovated, creating an eclectic mix of new and old.

What’s There?

The Danforth - with its outdoor cafes, hundreds of shops, the popular Carrot Common, restaurants and outdoor cafes - runs along the southern border of East York.  Greektown, one of Toronto’s more popular shopping and entertainment areas, runs along the south-western border of the area.  Thousands of Torontonians and tourists attend the annual street party “Taste of the Danforth”, each year.  To the east is Shoppers World, another popular Toronto shopping destination.

Families with children have access to over 20 elementary schools (3 of which are part of the Catholic Board) and 4 secondary schools in the East York area.  Centennial College’s East York Campus is located at Mortimer & Coxwell Ave and there are also a number of private colleges in the area.  And, East York General Hospital, a recognized leader in family medicine, has served the community since 1929.

Over the years, I have sold many houses in this great residential neighbourhood. Not only is it perfect for couples, and young families, it's also great for those who are downsizing.
