Taylor Creek Park

East York - Riverdale - The Danforth - all great Toronto neighbourhoods - for families of all sizes and ages.  Running west from the Don Valley and sitting close to Danforth Avenue, these areas feature great parks, recreation facilities and public spaces.  In fact this area just east of the Don Valley and north of the Beach boasts some of the most beautiful park land, ravines and trails in the city.

Taylor Creek Park is one of the city's better known recreational areas.  Following a major tributary to the Forks of the Don River, Taylor Creek was named after a well known family that lived in the area in the early 1800's.  The Taylor family owned and operated saw and paper mills that employed hundreds of people throughout the mid to late 1800's.  In 1959 the former Metropolitan and Region Conservation Authority began to acquire these lands for public use and reclamation.  In 1994 the Boy Scouts of Canada planted over 5,000 spruce trees in Taylor Creek Park and the City continues to introduce indigenous plant species as part of its overall conservation efforts.  Taylor Creek's mature forests, scrub communities and marsh habitat support a diversity of wildlife and regionally rare plants.

Taylor Creek Park is a favourite picnic spot for families living in the surrounding area. In addition to several strategically placed barbeque stands and picnic tables the ravine park features a Vita Parcours fitness trail.  In the winter months people love to cross country ski along natural trails and toboggan on the hills that dot the ravine.  A dog walker's paradise, you can stroll on the paved trails or hike on the more natural, untended trails that run along the north side to Taylor Creek.  Cyclists, joggers and roller bladders use the paved trail that runs through Taylor Creek - from E.T. Seton Park or the Lower Don Valley.

Getting to Taylor Creek Park
There is plenty of parking at entrances off Don Mills Road, Haldon Avenue or Dawes Road.  People wishing to take public transit can get to the Park on the Dawes 23, Cosburn 87 and/or O'Connor 70 buses with the Victoria Park Subway just a five minute walk from the east park entrance.  Pedestrian access points are located at Taylor Drive, Alder Road, O'Connor Drive, Glenwood Crescent, Notley Place, Park Vista and Victoria Park Avenue.
